Super Saturday!

We had a VERY productive Saturday.  I was going to say weekend and realized that after Saturday, we didn't feel like being productive anymore.

Rich and Lavita got here late Friday night.  We got up early Saturday morning and started tackling the brush pile on the side of the house.  Before we knew it, the pile was gone!  Loaded into the back of their truck and our green waste bin, so no more dead plants on the side of our house!

Well, since that was intensely motivating, we kept right on working.  Rich got up on a ladder that was straddling two old doors over the bed of his truck while Lavita held his legs and he reached as high as he could with a ten foot saw to cut dead palm fronds off the tree almost 20 feet in the air.  Sounds scary, right?  I was more than a little panicked the entire time.  Too bad I didn't get a picture of that.  Once I called Adam out to survey the scene, we decided it best to wait for a taller ladder to do the rest.
The hole created by Rich's efforts.  It looks small, but a ton of fronds came out of there.  Plus some nasty bird feathers.

After a lunch break, we finished priming the trim on the house.

That itself was a big improvement from the chipping green paint!

Then we painted Americana blue over it once the primer was dry.

Eventually, we'll rip out these nasty green bricks and drop the garden to ground level with some edging.
The plants are just infesting the garden!  They're trying to climb out.  Just stay in there till we can afford to do something with you!  Thanks!
I love it!

The rest of the house needs to be scrubbed, if not completely whitewashed again, but the blue makes me infinitely happier.  It just looks like a happy house now, doesn't it?

After this, the only other thing I did this weekend was try to organize all the boxes of childhood memories brought by both parents.  Now the room is in complete disarray, and I will not be showing pictures of that.  My progress is impeded every time I open an envelope to read whatever was written in a birthday card or letter several years ago.  Or a yearbook.  Or a photo album.  Or a box of toys.  Seriously.  I suck at organizing.  It'll get done...eventually.  I just have to look at everything first.

On another note, here are pics from our New Year's celebration with Adam's family.  I didn't get any pics of the sparklers and confetti poppers, but you do get to see us in our cute party hats.  :)  Eat your heart out!

Your house looks better every time we see it! The blue trim looks so much better; so cheery. We had such a nice time visiting today--love you!
